About
Hi — I’m Josh, and I don’t live in Vallejo
Let’s get the geography out of the way first, because you deserve to know who’s writing to you: This Week in Vallejo is run by Josh Tomlinson. I have family who live in Vallejo, and I’m a very frequent visitor — I’m here all the time; I just don’t live here. No pretending otherwise.
Here’s the connection: my family lives in Vallejo, and I’m in town every few months. Somewhere along the way I started keeping a list of everything happening during my visits — and realized the list was the problem. On any given week Vallejo has concerts at the Empress, shows on Mare Island, library programs, markets, art walks, church and club events, school performances… spread across dozens of calendars, feeds, and flyers. Our launch census counted 47 events in a single week. Almost nobody sees more than a fraction of it.
Vallejo has a good tourism calendar. What it never had is a resident-first weekly roundup — one email, written for the people who live here, that treats a church harvest night and a storytime as seriously as a headliner. So I built it. To be clear about roles: my family doesn’t run this — I do. They just have to live with me asking “what’s on this weekend?” every time I’m in town.
Every Wednesday, This Week in Vallejo rounds up the week’s top picks, family and kids events, live music and nightlife, the free stuff, a Benicia corner (because Vallejoans live ten minutes from Benicia and act like it), and the long tail of community events the big calendars miss.
Corrections, tips, and events are welcome: submit an event or write to hello@thisweekinvallejo.com.
